Products & Services

Nelsen Steel specializes in the production of cold finished carbon and alloy steel bars including:

                    Rounds 1/8" through 5"
                    Hexagons 5/32" through 3"
                    Squares 3/8" through 2-15/16"

Inquiries for rectangles and special sections are invited.

Nelsen offers thermal treatment services including normalizing, spheroidizing and lamellar pearlitic annealing, as well as quench and tempering before cold drawing and stress-relieving after cold drawing.

Special Products

Nelsen's Viking "100" Series, a heavy-draft, stress-relieved bar, is an ASTM-A-311-90 Class B product specified by many designers and engineers. These steels are ideally suited for such applications as pump parts, gears, motor and generator shafts, drive shafts, pins and other machinery and automotive parts applications. The A-311-90 product offers users the same high strength, wear-resistance and guaranteed physical properties as tradename steels, plus the Nelsen guarantee of quality and service.

Capabilities

Nelsen Steel uses state-of-the-art, computer-monitored production equipment and processes to produce quality bars that meet the most demanding requirements of its customers.

Highly sophisticated statistical process control and quality control protocols, coupled with a focus on the special needs of service centers and volume producers of precision-machined metal parts, have made Nelsen Steel the preferred cold finished bar source for the most demanding customers in the metalworking industries.

Facilities & Equipment

The following complement of processing and finishing equipment assures Nelsen customers that the steel bars they order will exactly match their specifications for physical and mechanical properties and will meet or exceed their expectations for straightness, surface finish, machinability and response to additional processing. All material is mechanically descaled for a superior surface finish.

Quality Assurance

Nelsen Steel views quality assurance as an all-encompassing responsibility to customers that spans the procurement of raw materials, systematic statistical control of production process, the application of the most stringent quality control standards and frequent product inspection at every step along the way. Many inspection and quality control programs are applied to each production run.

Capabilities include in-line and off-line magnetic testing (for surface imperfections) of the entire size range produced at Nelsen Steel, as well as ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness and sophisticated laboratory testing for physical properties and metallurgical defects. In addition, material is constantly checked for configuration, size accuracy, tolerances, straightness, and correct cross-corner dimensions.
